Food, beverage and pharmaceutical lines are cleaned with hot water, foam and detergent — several times a day. A standard servomotor does not belong there. The BF washdown execution takes the same three-phase synchronous platform as our standard servomotors and rebuilds its skin for that environment.
Built for Areas That Get Washed Down
A washdown motor is not a standard motor with an extra coat of paint. Every external surface has to shed water instead of holding it, every joint has to stay sealed through thermal shock, and the whole assembly has to survive the chemistry of an industrial cleaning cycle.
The BF execution answers that with a stainless steel housing and shaft and smooth edges — no cooling fins to trap product residue, no pockets where water can stand. Protection is rated IP 67 and IP69K, which covers immersion as well as close-range high-pressure, high-temperature cleaning.
Stainless where it matters
- Stainless steel housing and shaft
- Smooth edges, designed to be cleaned rather than avoided
- IP 67 and IP69K protection
- Three-phase synchronous motor supplied with a sinusoidal current wave form
- Resolver feedback — the BFS series
We develop what the market and the application need.
Mavilor Motors
The Same Motor, a Different Skin
Washdown is one of the special executions that sit alongside ATEX, radiation and vacuum resistant, space restriction, liquid refrigeration, frameless and in-wheel designs. They all start from the same principle: keep the electromagnetic design and the control behaviour that the application has already been engineered around, and change only what the environment forces you to change.
That matters on a production line. The drive, the feedback interface and the tuning stay the same as on the dry part of the machine, so a wet-area axis is not a second motion architecture to maintain.

Models and feedback
The range covers four models — BF-82 and BF-83 (resolver, or resolver plus brake), BF-122 and BF-124. The feedback device that produces the synchronisation and speed signal is a resolver, which is why the washdown motors are referenced as the BFS series.
Where It Fits
Anywhere the cleaning cycle is part of the process: filling and capping, secondary packaging inside the hygienic zone, conveying and handling in food and beverage plants, and pharmaceutical equipment that is cleaned between batches.
If your machine needs a flange, a shaft, a winding or a connection that the standard washdown models do not cover, that is a normal starting point for us — see the BF Washdown series, the custom and specialty programme, or simply send us the application.
